My Husband's Mother

My Husband's Mother
This is one of my most popular, most loved, poems. It is a gift for a mother-in-law. Someone once asked me why I chose this title. My answer was this: The term Mother-in-law tends to have a negative connotation, and I wanted this poem to have a "loving aura." It is a poem in which a wife is thanking her mother-in-law for having done such a wonderful job raising her son. The wife, of course, was the beneficiary, because her husband was a kind and loving man...raised by a beautiful, compassionate mother.

Remember Me

Remember Me
I wrote this poem for a friend who had lost her Mom. It is difficult to write poems in memory of the departed, because (at least for me) my goal in writing is to bring some sense of peace and solace to those left behind. With this poem, I tried to encourage my friend to focus on the happy times she shared with her mother, and I also wanted to leave her with the hope that one day, they would have a chance to meet again.

A Place Called Home

A Place Called Home
When my first-born went off to college, I was missing him terriblly. I wrote this poem to let him know, that if he became lonely while he was away, all he had to do was find a quiet place and think of home...and we too, would be thinking of him.

Heaven's Door

Heaven's Door
This poem comes in a male and female version. It addresses the death of a young child. It is hard to find words in situations such as these. Hopefully poems such as this one, serve to comfort the parents in some small way. It is all we have to give them, really. No one can stop them from hurting...but perhaps words such as these can ease their suffering just a little bit. That is really all that we can hope for.

My Other Mother

My Other Mother

This poem could serve as a gift for your mother-in-law, but it could also be a gift for someone who was "like a mother" to you. Sometimes, in life, we encounter someone who we just feel "so at home" with. Someone who genuinely cares about us. Someone who is always there for us, no matter what. Can you imagine how touched "that person" would be to receive this in the mail from you. When we touch the heart of someone we love, that sort of gift makes a profound and lasting impression ...one which lives with them forever.

A Mother's Hands

A Mother's Hands
This is one of my favorite pieces. It is the story of how a mother starts off..and how she progresses through her life as a mother. It talks about the different challenges and joys that become a part of her life, and it tells the tale of how quickly children grow. This would be a lovely gift for your own mother, or for a new mother starting out. It is the timeless story of the love and dedication that a mother has for her child.

For My Stepmom

For My Stepmom

I, myself, am a stepmother to two (now grown) children. If you are a step-child, consider giving or sending this to your stepmother. Step-parents have a tough go of it. There are so many times when you just don't know "your place." Often times, there is a built in resentment towards the stepmother or stepfather. I understand that it is natural, given the circumstances, but it is still a hard pill to swallow. As a stepmother, my goal was always to integrate the two families...that is really all that I wanted. In those early years, maybe I wasn't as successful as I would have liked to have been, but as time has passed, things have gotten better. If you do give this to your stepmother, I guarantee you that it will be something she will cherish forever.
